Rev. Colton Taunton serves as Pastor of First Baptist Church Americus, where he was called in June 2024. A native of Americus, he provides spiritual leadership through preaching, teaching, discipleship, pastoral care, and ministry oversight as he leads the congregation in following Jesus Christ with unity and purpose.

Rev. Colton Taunton brings over 12 years of vocational ministry experience, much of it in student ministry, where he developed a deep passion for helping people take real, lasting steps in their faith. He has served in a variety of pastoral and student ministry roles, investing in the spiritual growth of children, students, young adults, and families.

Leading First Baptist Church Americus, Colton is committed to the mission of clearing a path to Jesus for everyone, helping people encounter Christ in meaningful and accessible ways. He is passionate about helping people follow Jesus in everyday life and cultivating a church culture that is welcoming, authentic, and centered on Jesus.

Rev. Colton Taunton is a graduate of Americus-Sumter County High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgia Southwestern State University, and a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Colton and his wife, Molly, have two daughters, Caroline and Avery. Outside of ministry, he is an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan and proudly claims the title of their biggest supporter in South Georgia.
